There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer's neighbors heard about what had happened they sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, but the farmer replied, "Bad luck. Good luck. Who knows." A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, "Good luck. Bad luck. Who knows." Then, when the farmer's son was attempting to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this was very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, "Bad luck. Good luck. Who knows." Some weeks later, the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg they let him off. Now was that good luck. Bad luck. Who knows.
Everything that seems on the surface to be an evil may be a good in disguise. And everything that seems good on the surface may really be an evil.
So we are wise when we leave it to God to decide what is good luck and what is bad luck and to thank Him that all things turn out for good with those who love Him.

Haitian Folktale
There were two elderly neighbors who had been fighting since they were little children. One day they were both outside clipping the hedges that had grown extremely tall. They both were on high ladders in order to clip the hedges.
The one neighbor made a small opening in the hedges and said to his neighbor that we had both been fighting for a long time. Why not rent a boat and go fishing together. The other neighbor agreed. The following day they rented the boat and set out into the ocean.
One sat on one side of the small boat and the other on the other side. After they finally reached their fishing spot the one neighbor turned to the other neighbor and said that you have been laughing at me every since we left land. What is so funny? The neighbor then pointed to the other neighbors’ side of the boat and said there is a leak on your side of the boat!
[We are all in this human experience together and isn't it time we put aside our differences and worked together in order to raise and expand the levels of human consciousness? Imagine the world we could have where no child is left without a parent. Imagine a world without war but one that simply motivates all people to inner joy and self-illumination. We do not need to return civilization do the dark ages but rather move it and ourselves into the Light of Self-enlightenment. Each human being is important and every time one is taken from us we become less as a world and as a people of this planet.]
